My SPG had 99k on the clock when I picked it up over the summer. I've put 10k on it since. When I got the transmission was notchy, and reading this BB lead me to think that there would be a new transmission in my near future.
After buying a 12mm? Allen key and some fresh 10W30, I felt much more at ease. The transmission improved tenfold. I drained out BLACK oil that seemed to be as thin as water. I flushed a few times and now I'm running the Honda MTF. It's a world of difference. It's smoother, only slightly notchy, and pretty good on a cold morning. I can't imagine leaving that 11 year old totally broken down oil in the gearbox. I really can't understand how Saab recommends never changing it, only topping it up. No oil can withstand 10+ years of use, with 100k+ miles. It's good for the spare parts business, though!
