I have only worked on mid-80's 900's but the shaft might need *tapping* on the prybar with a hammer. As to the pressure plate, your only hope is to build up some pressure and have someone hold it down as you try to fit the ring tool. Individually prying each tooth down with a couple of large screwdrivers may work. This can be frustrating as the ring will slip out on the other side as you're trying to stuff in the tool. Try pre-stretching the tool.
If standard bleeding methods aren't working, I have a trade secret:
If you have a large syringe, you can use this to force brake fluid through the bleeder nipple. Loosen the reservoir cap, attach the syringe to the bleeding hose and clamp it down. Suck up some clean brake fluid at least into the hose and about 20-30mm into the syringe. Attach the hose to the bleed nipple and let any bubbles in the hose rise into the syringe. Open the nipple and pump the syringe. (Be carful, this can explode on you if it's not clamped tight enough, or too tightly.) While holding the plunger down, tighten the nipple and test the clutch. This may take a few tries. This procedure was developed after many failed slave cylinders on two engines. It can be done by only one person, and if perfected, on the first attempt. Some notes: remember to loosen the filler cap, you will need to hold quite a bit of pressure while tightening the nipple, clean the syringe out after you're finished as the brake fluid will erode the rubber. Hope this helps and doesn't cause you too many additional stresses.
