Aside: A Ferrari IS only worth what a Ferrari-ist would pay. Why else would they be paying more than a million for a 250 GT California Spyder? <<grin>>

Whatever the blue book value says is what the car is worth to the insurance company. You will have a major mountain to climb if you want to try to get them to give you what you and other Saab'ers think it is worth. I bought a perfect 1986 RX-7 a couple years ago for $3200, which was reasonable for what they were going for at the time for a perfect car. It was totaled 2 weeks after I bought it (damn SUV) and they'd only give me the blue book value, which was $2500, even though I could show receipt that I paid more only 2 weeks prior, and local ads for other cars in the same price realm.

I believe there is a thread somewhere on this board where someone fought the insurance company - I can't remember what the outcome was...but it may not be worth the time and money it ends up costing...and the insurance company knows that.

On the other hand, however - one really SHOULD look at it from the insurance company's point of view. They are dealing with tons of claims, and to try to sort out all the cliams one by one by what a car is worth to its loving cadre of drivers would be a nightmare. The blue book values are a nice basis to go by that keeps some goofball from claiming his 85 900 8 valve is worth the $10,000 he paid for it last week. Our car's relative lousy market values are just something we usually have to eat along with the good stuff...
