make sure non of your ignition wires has worked its way out of the distributor cap. mine did this before a long trip. i had a 2nd dist (with hall sensor), and extra fuel pump and was on my way to pick up a spare amm for the trip. i had an intermittent power loss on the highway and under acceration. it would also stall occasionally at stop lights and on on ramps (scary time to loose power). anyway, the morning of my trip the car started and ran like a$$. it sounded like it was running on three cylinders. so, i pulled up to the garage and popped the hood. i pushed down on all the spark plug wires thinking that one of them had worked off. nope, they were all tight. then i pushed in on all the wire connections to the dist cap. wouldn't you know it, the #3 cylinder wire seated itself when pushed. that little penis had me pulling my hair out over amm's, hall sensor, fuel pump, etc. ran like a champ on the highway on the trip. gas milage was even up. it's always small simple stuff.
btw, last time i had power surging it was related to a vacuum leak. if you hear air leaking ('psssssst') under boost, you could very well have a vacuum leak. this would result in improper mixtures due to too much air vs. fuel for vacuum conditions and too little air vs. fuel for boost conditions. amazing what a little vacuum leak will do. good luck.
