I have 3 Saabs; My wife's 97SE Convt is no problem, except for rattles and squeaks. I have a dilemma concerning the other two. My 95 900 SE 6 cyl has a slow head gasket leak, and my mechanic has said that given the history of the Opel engine, if I want to sell one of the cars, this one should be it. I gave the 91 mentioned above to my son, who is having trouble keeping it up properly, and we have discussed getting another car for him and my taking over the 91. After the SE and the convt, it has all the pickup of an electric mixer, but I think it is elegant. The car seems sound, but does have a leak in the vicinity of the oil pump, the shotgun window won't open, and the cruise control won't work; minor stuff like that. Road noise sounds loud compared with the other two cars, and the ride is rougher, and it has 113K on it. It was a cherry when my son got it, and is still looks great, except for a dented rear door (not his fault). Is it the consensus that the car is a good bet as a daily driver, about 30-40 miles a day? Seems hard to believe in the prospects for the long-term durability of an old, small engine asked to deliver over 3000 rpm at cruising speed; the car should have had at least a 4th gear. My mechanic says there is no problem. Anyone have any thoughts?
