The black wire might be a ground, as that is usual color for grounding wires. Red is more likely to be a 12 v supply from somewhere. As Micah said, try to follow wires to find out where they are coming from. If you have to, cut the wiring harness wrap open to follow the wire; you can always seal it up later. Also, hook everything else up that you can and then post back with what isn't hooked up. The mystery wire is bound to fit on one of the components you couldn't find a wire for. Someone with an elec. schematic can help track it down for you.
