82CT4dr. I've been putting money into the sound system for a good 9 months now. Got your basic cd/radio head pumping 200 watts to 4 channels. I replaced the 4" dash mounts twice, finally ending up with a pair of Blaupunkt. The 4x10 stock rear was supplemented by a pair of 8" round general purpose woofers mounted alongside them on the rear deck. Then I added a set of 8" subwoofers (custom mounted beneath the rear seat) powered by a 300 watt amp.
The 4x10 stocks were the weak link, as indicated by a shredding of the paper cone on both over time. Needing to replace them, I considered a new set of 4x10's, but finally opted for replacing the rear deck mounted supplemental 8" woofers with the two 8" subwoofers, powered by the head unit, nixing the 4x10's entirely. Then I bought a phat 400 watt 10" subwoofer and mounted it direct center on the rear deck, powered by bridging the sub amp to a mono signal. Results? Let's just say this is the first time I've stepped out of the car with ears ringing and a smile on my face. I'm completely satisfied. I doubt I'll be regularly driving at ear ringing levels, but it's nice to know I have that option.
And you know that annoying buzz and rattle that so many cars have from the sub woofer pounding away as they sit at a stop light? Mine doesn't do that. The only thing missing by having moved the subwoofer location from beneath the rear seat to the rear deck is the crisp pop I used to feel because the rear of the sub speakers (the magnet itself) were planted square against the chassis floor and pressed down firmly by a brace atop the cabinet housing. It made for a more crisp bass feel. The current set-up is far more powerful along every frequency to be sure, but I still miss that pop.
