fascia doesn't have to move

When I did mine (89 900 3-door) the fascia didn't have to move. The connector rod for the heater dial pushes into one end in order to get it out of the other. Forget which way, I think push it into the valve then you can get it out of the dashboard knob.
Anyway, some more hints...
The plastic nozzles which extend through the firewall can be broken off if you overtighten the hose clamps (unfortunate personal experience$$).
If you don't remove the whole heater core, some coolant will drip out when you take the valve off of the core. I didn't remove the core, & it wasn't too bad. Awkward, tho...
As you are wrestling with stuff under the dash, make sure you don't unplug any wires accidentally. Unplug them on purpose first, so you can take notes & get them back where they belong.
Anybody remember if the cigarette lighter is live with the ignition off?? Don't weld your watchband to the terminals. It gets really hot when that happens.
