'90 SPG seems weak...

I recently (this past september) bought a black '90 900 SPG. with 99k miles; it now has 105k. It is pretty quick but seems to be struggling more than it should for 175 hp. the power seems to be irregular or inconsistant under hard acceleration. sometimes when climbing hills (nothing really significant) at a cruising speed of about 60 mph i downshift to pass into third or fourth which i think would be low enough, but it just feels like something is missing especially at higher rpms as it doesn't seem to want to pull. i have recently replaced the spark plugs and the wires and everything seems fine. it has a slightly larger bore exhaust but other than that no aftermarket mods. the previous owner also put a good amount of money into it in a 90k mile check/tune up (i have the records).
does this often happen? for a car with 105k miles is there anything i should look at that might cause a loss of power? Alas, it could just be me. any thoughts?
