Hi
I'm pretty sure I have one (confirm by Vin #?), but how I got it is a little strange. I was in London (UK) on business in 1986 (I was a student in France), and stopped at SAAB Picadilly looking to order a 1987 2-dr notchback in Slate Blue for export. I had tried to order this car in France, but the Saab office in Paris was completely incompetent. In London, they said the Slate Blue was no longer available in 87, but I could buy their 1986 2dr 900S 16V demo car, which was configured for the US. The car was in a garage across town because they didn't know what to do with it (steering wheel on the wrong side and all). I bought it sight unseen, and after my parents drove it around Europe for a month, had it shipped to the US. It's still in fantastic shape, has 100k miles and is stored winters.
I'd be interested to know of others also. I've seen only one other slate blue 2dr (an 85 - no third brake light) in Minnesota. I was told by Saab at one point that the 86 car went away in 1987 because it was designed for the convertible body style, and that the engineering for the converible was behind schedule so they came out with the 16V 2dr for only 86 - does that make sence?
