I've done the spocket switch that RS talks about on my 87T.What I've observed at the boneyards is that most of the turbo trannies have the lower ratio sprockets. The non-turbos seem to have the higher gears. The trans model # gives you the code to the ratios. For example the turbo might have a 556 model. The 6 denotes the lower ratio. The non-turbos commonly have a 447 model trans. The 7 indicates the higher ratio sprocket set. My 87T came with the 556 and I put in the sprockets from a 447 and am very happy with the results. My rpm's dropped on the highway by about 400-500 and it makes the engine feel more relaxed. The factory trans manual has the details on the model #'s and the # of teeth on the various sprocket sets in greater detail.
