It's got new plugs at tune-up last spring. Maybe cap, rotors, Maybe more. Have to look at receipt back at home. I know the wires are pretty old, so maybe i will start there.
Mileage (related?): I just filled up and tallied 25.3 mpg. Last fillup 22.8mpg. Been hovering at 25mpg since October after a constant year of 28mpg. AMM replacement did not help mileage one bit. Brand new tailpipe is already black inside. Mechanic says "it's the cold weather, 25mpg ain't so bad." I know last winter(NewEngland) was 3x as bad and I maintained high (normal) mpg. Maybe those specifics are related (maybe I just hope they are).
It was running fine when it was discovered to be making this noise, i mean acceleration wise. It's only happened twice since i noticed it yesterday. Bumpier idle than usual when it was doing it. I don't recall whether i could hear the sputter inside the cabin, so I guess it's not that loud. I can hear the timing chain, though, a muffled crunch (doubtfully related or worthy of mention, but hey- myriad is myriad).
Generally acceleration is poor first off in the morning. It picks right up after the first instance of hesitation or two. My old scirocco did that too. Wires. So maybe wires. Wires could cause missing, no?
I wish I had a $4 answer!
Thanks burlyb
