Second--On my 93 900S, if I smell coolant around the hood, there is always some seepage. Before I make any guess, I would just look closely the cooling system -- particularly hose clamps and switches. Plastic Expansion Tank has two hoses and the clamp of the lower wide hose is one of the place. Then starting from the Radiator, trace hoses and if you see white residue, try re-torque the clamp. It's better to use a wrench (8 mm?) rather than screw driver, and first loosen the clamp, give a bit of twist, and tighten. The Fan Switch on the left upper corner of Radiator sometimes gets a seepage (this has two wires connected). When I replaced the gasket only (~$2 at Saab Dealer), the problem solved. Third -- the noise sounds familiar to me and it may be from the belts. Car has four belts and the twin belts for Alternator and Water Pump need a special attention. Good Luck!
