Air Mass Meter Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: poor throttle responce 88 SPG, Alan, Wed, 6 Feb 2002 13:03:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If pressing on the throttle seems to have no effect, suspect the Air Mass Meter (AMM). It measures the airflow into the engine. If it isn't working right, the ECU won't know how much air is coming into the engine, so it won't schedule the right amount of fuel. Eventually the revs will climb high enough that the ECU realizes that the AMM is lying, and adds some more fuel.
There are some tests for the AMM, but unfortunately the best test is to put in a known good one. You can get quality rebuilt units from places like Sobstory, and other BB advertisers. Just make sure you get the right one for your car. You should have the older -005 unit. Just match part numbers. I say this because the older and newer AMMs look similar, and the connectors fit, but they are electrically different and using the wrong AMM can damage both the AMM and the ECU. The big difference between the older '005 unit and the newer ones is the adjustment screw - older ones have an adjustment screw.
Good luck!
