The first thing if your not an electrican, is the condition of the insulation on the wires.
Then, expect to spend time with the turbo controls, specificaaly the diaphram in the controller, I never got more than 10,000 miles out of one. The overboost switch under the dash, if it has not been replaced is probably about to need it, one of my cars had it bypassed, I don't recomed that!
The CIS injection, if you take the time to learn it is very user friendly, lots of good stuff right here on it.
Some of the parts are no longer available from SAAB.
The turbo is the same on newer years, as is the transmission.
The 1980 was about the last year for what is called the "B" motor, one of its main features (good/bad) is the water pump is internal to the engine. The good is you can rebuild it yourself. The bad is needing a special puller tool and taking the intake off to repair it.
On a possibly expensive note, check the cooling system real close! if anti freeze containing phosphates(Green type) was used in the car there is a good chance the head is rotted out, the last time I bought a "b" head it was $600, and last rumor is they are no longer available.
If you want a good simple start to the SAAB world its a good car to start with, it was my first! I have 350,000 miles plus (broke oodmeter)on mine and have loved every mile!
