as the original? There should be a bit of clearance between the turbo flange and the heat shield. Occasionally even a correctly sized battery is placed too far forward on its pan and there is contact between the turbo flange and the heat shield galvanized cover when the engine 'rocks' on acceleration/deceleration - bad engine mounts accentuate the problem (You will see holes in the heat shield where the metal has been worn away). Even a little bit of air space makes a big difference in heat transfer. You will also have more problems with the battery if you do extended stop and go driving as the air motion is minimal when stopped and everything heats up.
