The only way to tell with a specific usage is to run an oil analysis.
I've been changing my amsoil 15W-40 marine synthetic oil at roughly 10K (filter too, none of this 6 mos filter change either) or annually (it NEVER runs a year) with no problems, backed up by oil analysis. The additive package and reserve alkalinity do not appear to be challenged by this interval on either of two gas/turbo Volvos or a gas/turbo saab, although carbon particulate buildup curve probably would 'knee' at 15K miles...I chose to change oil at around .5-1% carbon particulate. And this is with an amsoil bypass filter.
