Is yours a base or other? You either need 8V (if base) or 16V book (if S or Turbo) accordingly. If you have the 8 valve, then I know the 8 valve Bentley book will help immensely. I've heard 16V book is good, too, but I don't own a 16V car.
I found that eEuroparts.com has the 8V Bentley book for about $40+s/h.
As far as a tune-up list, I'd:
*Change engine oil & filter
*Change gearbox oil (if manual)
*Change air filter
*Change fuel filter
*Examine auto. trans. fluid (if auto); if dark or burnt smelling, replace
*Check spark plugs (NGK gold-palladium plugs are good, if old plug gaps are too wide=worn)
*Flush cooling system & replace coolant with Mercedes-Benz type antifreeze (see "M-B Coolant Update-- pH value" posted by Cirrus white earlier today and Townsend Imports page on the subject--link below)
*Check distributor cap & rotor for wear/carbon tracks (hairline "cracks")
*Check brake pads for wear (if replacing, you'll need the special tool for retracting the front brakes' pistons to get new(therefore thicker) pads in. This is necessary due to ratcheting action of self-adjusting brakes and because your car has emergency brakes on front wheels; '87 was the last year for that, too)
*If brakes "clunk" when applied when car is moving backwards, go to the main SAABNET page's FAQ link and scroll down to OG 900s FAQs and click on "Reverse Brake Noise" for cause/fix. See also Townsend's site under Technical Documents>Brakes>"Correcting front brake popping."
*While checking brakes, see if your e-brake cable boots (little black rubber bellows at caliper end of cables) are rotted. Mine were and I replaced them. They are needed to keep out dirt and water--which can freeze brakes "on" in winter weather.
*While you have the wheels off, check rubber driveshaft and steering tie rod boots for cracking/tears. If cracks or tears seen, replace them SOON.
*Check engine drivebelts for wear. If cracked or glazed looking, replace.
*Look at power steering fluid. Drape a CLEAN paper towel over a finger and dip into P/S fluid reservoir. If fluid very dark or shows black "peppery" grains, consider flushing it GM P/S fluid is used (the power steering is a GM design, by the way). Townsend's site has good procedure on this under Suspension in his Technical Documents section. (I need to do this!)
*Clean out throttle with carburetor/throttle body cleaner (be sure it is oxygen sensor safe!) and old toothbrush.
*Look in owner's manual for additional service procedures.
Hope this helps!
