From your description of when trhe engine gets hot it souds like your radiator fans aren't working. I would bet that the leak you see is a result of too much pressure from getting too hot from the fans not working at lower speed driving when the fans do the work to pull air over the radiator. Anytime your engine gets too hot your should always replace the thermostat to make sure it wasn't damaged. Try idling your car until the temp gauge gets 1/2 - 3/4 on the temp gauge if your fans aren't coming on bu the time you get a few needle widths away from the red you may have a problem. Also if you have a plastic tanked radiator and it has a lot of miles on it and that is where the coolant is leaking from you may need a new radiator. If your fans don't come on turn the engine off and try jumpering the wires at the fan sender in the radiator and that way you will at least know if the problem is in the fan motor(s) or not. Also make sure you bleed the cooling system at the thermostat housing when you fill up your cooling system.
