More on Bizarre Idle Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Alright, my frustration level is growing. I replaced the NTC sensor and fuel filter today, and even removed the injectors and installed o-rings. I set the static timing back to 14 degrees, where it belongs.
The car runs GREAT. Wonderful power from idle to redline and feels like it should. But it idles at 1600-1800rpm. The AIC is known good, and the TPS checks out. Tomorrow I am going to swap computers with one from an '88 SPG (a spare), swap in a known-good AMM, and verify certain relevant wires through the engine wiring harness. I don't see how or why the ECU would die over the course of one day, and *only* affect idle, but perhaps the wiring harness is in bad shape on the inside - it's fine on the outside.
I have poured over the Bentley manual, and the only thing that affects idle is the rpm signal and the AIC, right? There are no adjustments, no corrections. It's smarter than I am. But WHY WON'T IT IDLE CORRECTLY? Ack... I remember a similar incident on my '88 900T where it idled at 1200rpm always, and *once* jumped up to 2000rpm for the course of 30 minutes, but it self corrected. I've driven the S around all day and it still won't correct. Any thoughts on what I could possibly be missing here?
