I have a 97 SE coupe and have had and still do several C900s, right now an 88 Turbo and an 86S parts car (maybe on the road, someday)as well as a 9000T. The NG cars are better in many ways, and reliability is probably one of them (as well as ride and speed). We got used to bad heater valves, cabin fans, front calipers, rust problems (for those of us in the Midwest) and several other shortcomings of the Classic models. I was told by a Certified Mechanic from NM (Jim Smart I think it was) that the newer cars ARE cheaper as far as parts (GM influence) and the later C900s are really pretty complicated with ABS and other fun stuff to contend with, all crammed into a 20 yr old design. On the other hand, my 97 (f/s) has been towed twice by AAA in the year that I have owned it, latest for a new ignition switch. Conclusions? I guess that the newer cars are going to be better in the long run, but so far I have not been overly impressed since the ignition debacle, leaving me stranded 180 miles from home. Either way, get a good one with service records and such, as either one could bite you if not well cared for. I think that is more important than what model to buy. Plus, NG prices are dropping so fast lately that you can get some great deals on them too... AND you can get nice wheels for them that you could not get for a C900.
