Check your coolant level. If its low and there's no visible leaks anywhere you may have a bad head gasket. You might have a bad head gasket if there are bubbles in your coolant reservoir when the engine is running, or there's evidence of coolant in your oil. Is your oil level any higher than it should be? I'm no expert on 8 v's (and I even have a few questions regarding my own T16) so I don't know what to tell you about your dipstick trick. It's my understanding that when your turbo's about to go it smoke's badly because the oil seals are worn and is allowing oil to be burned and makes a frightening noise because the shaft becomes unbalanced.
My problem is little more complicated. Lately I've noticed my coolant level was mysteriously low to the min mark on the tank. A few days later while double checking my fluids, I noticed some water was drizzling onto my exhaust manifold after I had started my engine. It was only a little spittle at a time but I 'm pretty sure it was coming from my head gasket. At the same time I noticed that my valve cover had some oil seepage where the distributor mounts to it. I can't really tell if there's coolant in my oil but it wouldn't surprise me if there was. She's smokes alot to and that's what alerted me to the situation. I thought about grabbing some gear heads at work and jumping into the fray but I'll suck it up this time and have my mechanic also fix the broken stud on the exhaust manifold, replace the motor mount, and valve cover gasket. By the way, can anyone recommend a good high performance exhaust system?
I love this site! Thanks in advance,
Edsel
