So I took the cover off the clutch, couldn't see anything wrong. Couldn't reproduce the noise I had heard after driving. Let it idle for 30 minutes ... nothing. Then I decided to test it in gear. Put it into reverse with brake on, heard the noise briefly. Tried again, now it's locked in reverse. Looks like transmission problems, eh?
Anyone know what it should cost to have the Transmission rebuilt, and exactly what should I expect them to do for the money?
I called one place a while ago, and they said they would replace 60% of the gears and shot-peen the others. I think they said it would be between $1000 and $1500. Does that sound about right? It's a place that works only on Saabs and has had good reports from others on this B-Board.
Would it cost me that much in parts and tools to do it myself? Never worked on a transmission, but if it's just replacing parts, then I can probably do that.
