Okay, this is the second time I've noticed it -- '91 900S..

After coming back from a short, 5-minute drive, I backed into my driveway and noticed, in the beam from my headlights, steam coming from the front of the car. I got out to look and noticed that yes, it's coming out the grille and I can smell antifreeze. Hrm...

I knew about this since before I recently bought the car (as I saw it happen the first time I test drove it--at night), and I frequently smell antifreeze after I get out after a drive. One time, recently after I got the car, I had the hood open and noticed that the coolant reservoir was VERY low... I could just barely see a little coolant above the level of the tube. I filled it up and its been full ever since.

One more thing--the temperature never gets above 1/4 or 1/3 of the way into the green when I'm driving. I get heat in the cabin, but the car never registers as being hot. The only times I've seen it get even to 1/2 (normal) temp. was when it sat idling in the driveway--twice!

SO, I'm thinking...

A) new radiator?? I presume the steam is from a small leak somewhere in the middle or top of the radiator--any suggestions? A radiator from an '89 would fit, wouldn't it? I.e., I've got one in the barn that's just itching to go in...

B) new temperature guage? Which temp. spec should I get for a '91?

TIA,

Tim B.
