If twisting the rheostat doesn't work, you can first try to jump the rheostat wires to see if the rheostat is shot. If still no heater control lights, you can get to both through the radio hole. First remove the radio with the U-hooks(if you don't have u-hooks, you can make them out of coat hangars). Make sure you have the radio code, too. Next remove the DIN box that the radio sits in, by gently prying the bottom lip and the top lip towards the center to release the tabs from the opening. The box pulls right out. Then unplug the harness wires so yo can reach into the hole. The fan speed light socket is nest to the fan speed control and is not too hard to find. Just pull the socket out and replace the bulb. The temp control light is a bear. It also illuminates the cigar lighter and is directly above the lighter socket. There are lots of wires and stuff in the way, but it is possible to reach this socket through the radio hole, albeit blindly. If you give up, then it's time to remove the dash instrument panel. Get yourself a Bentley manual before you tackle that. Still not too bad...1 hour first time 1/2 hr after that, but you do have to unplug every switch.
