The ppm wear metals on the dino oil at 3K were not alarming...but significantly higher than those of the synthetic oil at 10K. Of course it's been 1984 since I ran that comparison on my new 900T and 1992 since I set up the 10K oil change interval on the 87 900t using the bypass filter. However, I still have the same volvos/saabs so I see no reason to change my opinion. Maybe the new SG/SH dino oils are better, but I doubt it.

Interestingly, changing the bypass filter every 30K reduces the carbon particulates down to <.5% so I guess I could keep using the oil, but 30K works out to about 2.5yrs at the rate I'm running the old saab so I change it every 10K.

A real reason to use oil analysis is it tells you ahead of time if you're leaking coolant into your oil or head gasket failure (at least when you're using phosphate/silicon coolant...I guess if I change to Mercedes coolant I'll have to use a different tracer).

I used oil analysis for several years but haven't run one for about 5 years...no problemo so far.
