One thing I did for the first time on this install was to line the edges of the rear panel with 1/4" foam tape to get a nice seal against the body of the car. Not only did this cut down on a surprising amount of noise in the car, but it also made for serious help with the bass response of the speakers... It's not quite a sealed setup, but no much air is moving in an and out the panel. Someone on this board (I think) didn't do the seal, but instead lined in the inside of the car body with dynamat... I'd intended to do the same thing, but got impatient & couldn't find the dynamat locally. :)
Anyway, the speakers sound fantastic for the $100 I paid (sale on crutchfield.com). Bass is good, treble is bright and clear. Unfortunately I really need to fix the front setup since now the rears drown out the crappy dashboard speakers. I'll get to that soon... right now, the '88 9kt is crying for new speakers, so the 2-door has to wait.
