I've always pulled the engine and tranny together. If its the origanal 80"s tranny it will use a different thickness tranny to engine gasket than the 84. The clutch shaft will be out of line if you don't use the right (matching the year of the tranny)gasket. Take the clutch out first (before disasembly)unless you have the tool to compress it. The 80 (B motor)has 2 bolts holding the engine to the tranny under the flywheel that are not used on later cars (H motor). You will probably need an adapter at the dipstick tube also, some time in the early 80's they changed the size of the threads. I got one from SAAB to put a newer tranny in my 80, Don't know if they offer one to go the other way.
