Oh, SAABanetic leprosy. Very serious.
There are 3 screws that hold the shifter into the gear shift housing. You'll need to pull the shifter boot off the console and you'll see a metal ring with 3 tabs on it on the top of the white shifter ball. The hard part is going to be finding the 3 screws that hold that metal ring (called the bearing shell) onto the shifter base. You may need to go to the dealer or to a place that has metric screws to get replacements.
On the other hand, if the shifter pulled out of the shifter ball, you'll need to undo those 3 screws (I think they're #20 torx screws) pull up the ball and look for a clevis pin (it looks like a short, thick hairpin with one straight leg. That probably fell out and let the shifter pull out of the ball. You'll need to put the shift lever in the ball, find the locating hole for the clevis pin and put it back in. Unfortunately, I don't have a good picture to show you how it all goes together.
