I think the key to solving your problem is finding out what the black sludge is. That really has me bothered.

Blue smoke is an indicator that oil is getting into the combustion chamber via the pistons rings, valve guides, or oil is getting past the seals in the turbo charger. One way to test if it's the valve guides is to drive down a hill with you foot off the gas and at the bottom briefly stomp on the gas pedal. If a big puff of smoke comes out then the guides are the prime suspect. Have a compression (wet/dry) and a leak down test to see if oil is getting via the rings and/or guides. If the turbo is leaking there should be evidence of oil in the piping going to the intake manifold.
