I replaced the alternator mounting bushes...and the centreline axis was straight again - i.e. the belt used to be a bit cock-eyed with the old bushing. Can you shake the alternator (and the A/C compressor for that matter) side to side at all? It should move a mm or two...and that's all. Failing that...how are the bearings?
