Not trying to start a debate on the beaten subjuct....I'm just curious.
Story is I switched both of the 900's (n/a 2.0 and a turbo 2.0) over to Mobil 1 10W-30 over a year ago.
I put 5W-30 in the n/a engine last oil change just to expirement because it has developed piston slap or has a worn main bearing that knocks until it is warmed up well....runs very well though. Anyway...conventional wisdom would lean toward putting in a heavier oil but...like I said I was expirementing. Weird thing is that it *seems* to stop knocking sooner and uses less oil now. On 10W-30 it used a quart over 3000 miles. On the 5W-30 it only used half a quart over 3000 miles. Can't figure that one out. Any theories on why?
Anyway...I was thinking of putting 5W-30 in the turbo once it's due for a change. But...I'm waffling on that one....
Any thoughts either way?
BTW...climate is SE Massachusetts...though it hasn't been much of a winter...shhhh!
Thanks....sorry so long.
Todd
