here are the things to check:i have a 1990 spg also. i have a bentley manual that is so very helpful. several places on the net sell this manual. it is for all saab 900's from 1985 to 1993.

a. check all rubber and sillicone hoses.new ones from saab savior.
b. clean aic valve/auxillary idle control. clean out with good carburator cleaner or throttle body cleaner, and lubricate with wd-40. very easy.i used valvoline syntec carburator and throttle body cleaner.
e. make sure the turbo bypass valve is securely on.
f. possibly the coolant temperature sensor. $38 from saab or $38 from http://www.saabsite.com....speak to t.w.... very easy to put on. sits in between the fuel injectors and has a connection like a fuel injector.
g. clean out your throttle body. go to the performance site and you will see my notes on this.
h. black air tubeing that runs to the turbo bypass valve and air mass meter has a rubber grommett that sometimnes comes aloose. make sure it is securely on. about $6 from saab dealer.
