Hi folks,
I have an '84 900S which has the dealer-added cruise (the type without the electric vacuum pump or the cruise control chain to the gas pedal). My cruise system relies on its own little round vac. reservoir, fed by the main vac. reservoir. Recently, I bought a junkyard electric vacuum pump from an '86 Turbo, just for the heck of it. I got a few inches of wiring and the 3-pole connector plug, too. (A chop job, I know.)
My theory is that I can hook up this vac. pump to assist the cruise (not off the cruise wiring) and, more importantly, the main vacuum reservoir. I want to do this so that during my long, frequent SAAB mountain climbs the dash air stays where I select it, not defaulting to the defrost vents!) and make my long uphills at full throttle more enjoyable. Sound feasible? (Or am I just plain crazy?) I'm decent at wiring stuff (12V things, anyway) and wouldn't have too much trouble finding a dash switch location.
Also, the Bentley cruise control diagram doesn't exactly tell which wire controls the pump. It seems outer ones on plug (I forget the colors just now) go to the pump motor and the third has a diode connected to one of the outer wires. Do I need to hook up all 3 or just 2 of them for pump to work?
Any input on this job will be greatly appreciated!
