I wonder if changing the coolant every year or two would help? I've read that coolant breaks down over time and becomes corrosive or something. That could be a factor. I think the biggest factor is the smaller gap between cylinders due to boring out to 2.1L. If you say 100% failure rate you should have a certain mileage or time to go with it! Like kooch said, it's relative to the time frame. If it's 100% failure rate over 5-6 years, Saab wouldn't care since, more than likely, most would be out of warranty.
