The problem is very typical if you ask around on this board. Most here have had to at least do this themselves or have the mechanic do it for them at some point in time over the years. I did the same procedure on my 88' 9000T Airflow, and found the base boost to be 3.0 to 3.5 at best, like wise it should have been in the upper 5's or 6.0 max. I believe the wastegate diaphram gets worn over the years and causes this to happen, and therefore explains why it's adjustable. More than likely it hasn't been touch/adjusted before, so adjust it but, do it in small increments til you get near where it should be. I adjusted mine up to just over 4.5 and left it there. Performance wise, I went from a max of 11-12 psi before, to about 16-17 psi after. I'm glad I fixed it.. Did the same for my 900T but, not as much since I don't have any fuel upgrades to support it just yet.
See Ya,
Phil
