OK,

I replaced my head gasket to remedy my anti-freeze smoke problem. I got the Bently manual and the Townsend tips and followed them very closely. I did NOT get my head re-surfaced or anything fancy. I just cleaned the surfaces good. My old head gasket was pretty eaten up around Cyl #1 and it the cylinder itself was "steam cleaned" so I thought replacing the gasket would be a lock for solving the problem.

I got the whole thing put back together and got it started up (I was feeling really good at this point - I really did it) EXCEPT... as soon as the darn thing got up to running temp, it started smoking AGAIN!

Well, obviously I either FAILED MISERABLY in installing the new gasket properly OR I have a more serious problem that I cannot find.

I've taken the head off again, here's what I find:

I once again have milky oil. (I'm still stumped about how the coolant gets in the oil if it is being burned in the cylinder, is it leaking down past the rings??)

My number 7 head bolt (lower one next to timing chain and cyl #1) has this milky oil mixture all around it. How does it get there?

I've been looking for cracks, can't see any obvious ones. Both the block and the head appear to be straight (using my square, nothing fancy). I'm going to have the head looked at this time

I AM TOTALLY STUMPED! Should I start looking for a replacement block or head?

Are there any other tests I should run?

Can anyone explain the possible ways to get coolant burned in the cylinder besides the gasket?

PULEEEEEEEZEEE? ANY-BOD-EEEEEEEE?
