'85 900S 191k. Swaybars: Adding set used Saab bars will dramatically improve handling. In theory winter handling suffers a tiny amt, but hasn't been evident to me yet in Wisconsin. Bars can be bought ~$100 used, just re-paint'em and buy new bushings and nuts/bolts, good as new. Major bang for the buck. DIY req loosening PS rack. My car was predrilled, don't know if '84 also. Alternative is have tech slap them in when you get the PS rack r/r'd sometime!
Shocks: Like you I wanted a sportier ride while still accepting this is a nat asp 8v. Townsend recomm to me, and I'm happy as a clam with, Sachs 112-102 fronts (SPG spec he says) and Boge 360-821 rears (all models). Bit more taut up front than stock, *way* more than the old worn Boge's I had, sporty but not abusive, beautiful. Like most bigger cities, we've some 3rd-world-quality roads around here; you do NOT want track-car suspension! :p
