I suggest pulling off the head and seeing what the damage is. Oil consumption can be a head gasket, head, worn bores, rings or turbo. That it was 'a lot' in <3000 mi (assuming that you change the oil in 3k) leads me to suspect a head hasket or cracked something. Have the head pressure checked and crack checked. Inspect the cylinder bores, inspect the face of the block for pits. Once it is apart, then you can determine what is the best/cheapest way to fix it.
