Check or replace the By Pass Valve as well Posted by mjm [Email] (#872) [Profile/Gallery] (more from mjm) on Thu, 4 Apr 2002 18:59:15 In Reply to: '92 900S overheating!, Ben Wilson, Thu, 4 Apr 2002 14:02:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I also have 92 900s. The car runs hot though apparently not dangerously so. I replaced the thermostat and the thermo switch on the radiator (be careful not to break off the nipple on the radiator like I did and had to replace the radiator - doh)and used the Mercedes coolant as many have advised. I've yet to do the re-wire to engage both fans. With the stuff I did the temp did go down a bit. But it wasn't until I replaced the heater bypass valve that it stopped blowing hot air into the cabin.
Now when I have the temp selector all the way on the blue I get cool air blowing in. The general consensus is both that the bypass valve is not necessary and if you can, use the pre- bypass standard hosing and also the heater control valve, i.e., the temp selector, is the next thing to replace if it continues to blow hot. Townsend has good instructions for this.
Hope this helps
