Help with Power Sterring

My 89 900S has all of a sudden started to "groan" , it seems each time I turn the wheel, while acclerating, the car make a "whinning" noise. It seems as those it coming from the power sterring. Although when i turn with out the my foot on the accelerator, there is no noise. It seems the worst each morning and afternoon, after it's been sitting all day or all night. When parked, the noise is present when I turn the wheel all the way to the right or all the way to left. On slight turns it's not noticable.

Could this be a sign that the pump is going? Fluid seems fine.
