I have a '90 900S hatch 5-speed.
Right after I bought it (6 mos ago), the brakes started acting up. Occasionally, the brakes felt like they locked up (despite ABS) and the car would veer right somewhat. Now it does it almost all the time, and much more severely. It's as if one side is braking (or ABS is kicking in) before the other side.
What IS this (NOW, for Chrissake)? I am totally convinced this is what caused my accident last week (I spun out on DRY pavement and crashed), this car is barely controllable.
Also, I've discovered my SRS is not functioning (middle of steering wheel lands on my lap, sans airbag of course).
I've had four OG Saab 900s. I guess I never learn. Natch, everyone's gonna tell me it's twelve years old, I didn't check it out, it's a lemon among all the other peaches, blah blah blah.
I've also had plenty of other twelve year old cars that don't cause half the drama this damn thing does. I have been drawn in by the excellent design, handling, versatility and prestige vs. initial purchase cost. However, none of that is going to get me from point A to point B reliably and safely. I can't afford to keep this car and treat it like a (losing money constantly) pet. I guess these cars should only belong to the mechanically inclined with a garage and a good parts connection. I am not among those.
Sorry to rant like a crazy person.
I'm just done with this bullshit. You all have fun nursing your cars to health constantly and convincing yourselves they're great. In ways they are, but mine is going up for sale to be replaced, likely, by some old boring Mazda or Honda, unfortunately.
Perhaps in the future, I'll buy a newer Saab I can afford to take care of and I'll love it. For now, I can't deal.
Feel free to offer advice, or flame (I know I'll get this). Sorry.
