The procedure is fairly simple, in general.
Get a can of PB Blaster to lube rusted bolts.
Have a few 17-mm & 19-mm box wrenches, sockets, short breaker bar, and long ratchet handy.
Unbolt the trailing links on both sides. Unbolt the Panhard rod. Unbolt the rear bolts on the spring arms - these are the bolts that go through the bushings on the rear axle behind the springs. These came out surprisingly easily.
Do what you need to do for the brakes hoses - I'm not sure of the similarities between '85 and '88. If they're original, get new ones.
Putting it back together is pretty straighforward once you see how it all goes together. For me, the trick part is the brake hoses and brake lines.
Because you have 2 different braking systems for the 2 years, you will only be able to use the rear brakes from the '88 on the car. I don't know if this will cause any problems with the proportioning if you use '88 rear calipers in a car with pre-88 front brakes. Another downside to this is that you will only be able to use the wheels from the '88 on the rear.
