Well, after being a newbie at flashing the Check Engine light codes on Mom's 1990 900 even two months ago, I am getting a bit more flashes under my belt. (My 900 is an '84, way before CE lights!)
That said, on her 900 the connector is a 10-pin connector but only has 4 pins in it. Is yours like that? If so, the SAAB 10-pin plugs are labeled with numbers on the outside of the plugs. There are five numbers on each side of the plug, and their left to right order corresponds to the order of the wires in the plug. The fifth number on each side is not in line with the other four, it sits right below them. These fifth numbers correspond to the inner, central pin (or hole for the pin) on each side. On one side it is pin 9 and it's pin 10 on the other side.
It helps to visualize four pins in the horizontal slots on each side of the plug (times 2, so we've got 8 so far), and draw a horizontal line across the middle of the plug in your mind. It helps to look at the plug diagram on the Swedish Wrench page (linked below). Then, your central pins make a fifth for each side (now total of 10). It's weird since all the spots aren't used inside the connector. In my Mom's SAAB, its the gray wire, if I remember correctly. (Which confused me, since Townsend's page says gray/red wire, not plain gray).
Anyway, I hope this mess I've written is understandable and helpful.

Take a look at Swedish Wrench's plug diagram here.
