First, most likely thing: just check the 3-wire harness on your distributor. You're just making sure the wires aren't loose. You might want to look for corrosion.
HOWEVER -- I suspect that you need to do the following:
Replace your distributor. It's actually the hall effect module in the distributor that has failed. If you want to rebuild your distributor, this is your choice, it is far easier to simply replace the dist with a good used one, probably cheaper too.
I most certainly had to do this with my (RIP) '86 900T, engine would just cut out 'for no reason'.. restarted most of the time until the situation came to a head.
More likely than not this is a heat-related problem. You can, for example, apply an ice-pack to the distributor, keeping it cool, see if the engine cuts out. If it doesn't cut out with the distributor cold, you have a very solid clue that the dist is to blame.
