Intermittent odometer is fairly common - there's a gear in the speedometer that cracks and slips. The only cure is replacing it or sending it out to be fixed.
There is no cruise light on an '86. First year they implemented it in US-spec 900s was '89.
Cruise control not working can be a number of things from vacuum leak, bad vacuum switch on the clutch pedal, bad CC module, actuator chain falling off, to sticking brake light switch.
It wouldn't be such a bad idea to replace all of the underhood vacuum lines with silicone vacuum. While you're doing that, replace all of the rubber bushings that hold the vacuum nipples into the intake manifold and valve cover with new ones - they tend to shrink and become major vacuum leaks.
You can get 3.5 mm silicone vacuum hose from a place like NOPI for around $1US/foot (15 feet should do it). Vacuum bushings are $3.50 or so each from the dealer or half that price from some of the sponsors (you'll see their ads on the bottom of the page. Sobstory, Cybertroll, eEuroparts. They're all good.
