Is the steering gone or just real hard? Completely gone means that you turn the wheel far to the left and look at both tires and neither turns(or its just frozen). Real hard means that they both turn but it takes a lot of pressure(this is probably a Power steering failure(leak or belt broke). If one tire turns but the other doesn't it is probably the ball joint between the rack tie end and the actual arm on the wheel. I can't think of anything else that would STOP it from moving completely. It you have experienced any type of banging noises from the front on tight turns or backing up it could be a ball joint. But I still don't know why it would freeze the wheels in place. If the wheel turns freely you can open the hood and check the spot where the steering column exits the firewall and attaches to the RACK. If you turn the wheel and the rack gear doen't move then it is a problem with the column. Good luck
