I too wanted a turbo, but i figured i'd be better off without the headaches and probable problems. *this car needs to get me through 4 yrs of college now.*
when looking for the car to buy, i test drove a 1990 900S sedan 5 speed. this thing was a really neat car, that was fun to drive.......but, it had noooooooo power. i have been driving stickshift 2 years and stalled it twice trying to get up a slightly graded driveway. out on the road it felt ok...moving at a barely acceptable speed at near half throttle.....i gave it some more gas and eventually WOT, but it just got louder, not faster. i was real disapointed. then i thaught maybe a 3 door would be faster, so i went to look at one next to the first one in autotrader. not more than an hour later i was behind the wheel of a pristine condition 1991 900S 3 door 5 speed. as i drove off in this car, i couldnt belive how peppy it was. it felt more responsive and quicker all around. going from half throttle to full actually did something in this car !! i didnt even know the 91+ cars had more power, but boy was it obvious!
i bought the 91 one day later for 3 grand and have proudly owned it for the last 3-4 months.
P.S. recently i have replaced the packed airfilter, with a cone filter, and it made a huge difference, the powerband used to be around 3000, and now its more like 4800.... BUT the power from 1-6000 rpm has somewhat gone up too. and it sounds cool now!!
next plan is exhaust.
