many people at my school have some sort of preformance exhaust for their cars. From Wranglers to Civics, it seems that as the backpressure and restriction lessens, a backfire like noise can be heard many time on decceleration.

well i wanted to experiment with my 91 900S and exhaust work, so in my autoshop me and a couple good buddies took the small post muffler off and replaced with with strait pipe. Car idles awsome, its prety loud and a nice tone. The sound of it from 1500-2100 is questionable, but over all i think it sounds pretty good. certainly better from the total lack of exhaust noise it came with. Now, the car backfires mildly under decelleration. this is normal, but is it ok? does it always do this but with oem mufflers its hidden? or........does the lack of exhaust cause some sort of engine change that promotes backfire?
