I've been here for 9 years and there have only been two days one of the Saabs wouldn't start.
1. '79 900 GLE 5-door (loved that car) - 30 below morning plus a good wind chill (real damn cold). One of 11 straight days below 0. Cranked some, but wouldn't start. I wiggled one of the fuel injector lines and it snapped off in my hand. Ended up being a pricey piece of plastic tubing (towing to a warm spot, etc.). Had AAA ever since.
2. '88 900S - buried in heavy snow night before and then serious temp drop in the morning. Cranked, but no start til it was dug out and sat in the sun for an hour (?). Then it turned right over. Probably more about moisture than cold.
Now, I have block heaters in the 900 and the 9000, but rarely, if ever, use them. They were on there when I got the cars.
Plus, there's the whole global climate change thing that has meant that we just had the warmest winter on record, with 8 of the 10 warmest in the last ten years(!!!).
So, no, probably not. Spend the money on a AAA membership. We also have this really cool thing called Highway Helper. Guys in yellow trucks on the freeways who do simple roadside service for free (gas, flats, jumps, overheating, etc.). Only needed them once, but I really needed them and they were there.
